Houses, Apartments, and Property Management Services in Grand Rapids

Weed & SeedI have recently become more aware of the work being done by Grand Rapids Central Weed & Seed (they also have a Facebook Fan Page here). The organization was formed in Grand Rapids about 4 years ago to “weed” crime and drug abuse from our inner-city neighborhoods and “seed” them with community development initiatives. They do a variety of things throughtout the year to both “weed” and “seed.” The next event for the organization is the 4th Annual Teen Summit [...]

UP SnowmanCreate a snowman for a chance to win some free stuff!

Here’s how it goes:

1) Make a creation out of snow or ice between November 1, 2009 and February 28, 2010. Snow is the obvious choice, but the competition is not limited to snow alone.
2) Take a picture of yourself and the creation in front of your house (you and the house must be visible in the photo) and send to us via mail, e-mail, Facebook, Twitter, or deliver in person. If you do not have a camera, you can contact us and we will swing by to take a picture for you.
3) Only Urban Pharm tenants and properties are eligible.
4) Judging will be based on a combination of public vote and Urban Pharm vote. Pictures will be posted online for anybody to vote for, but we will have the ultimate say with public opinion taken into consideration.
5) Live in a multi-family building? You can either work WITH your neighbors (and split prizes amongst yourselves), or designate areas so that you can each make your own creations.
6) The main component must be snow, but you can use any other accessories that you want. HOWEVER, do not choose items that will blow away, pollute the environment, or create an eyesore for the neighborhood and fellow tenants. Any non-snow items must be picked up and disposed of before the creation begins to melt. Please keep creations PG—nothing vulgar or offensive.
7) Prizes will be announced later, but won’t be anything too crazy (probably some Urban Pharm gear). Winners will be announced in March.

840 KalamazooFor a few weeks now, we were drooling at the potential of managing a new property near Franklin and Kalamazoo in Southeast Grand Rapids. Unfortunately, we just found out today that our client has pulled his offer on this amazing property. After a thorough combing of the building, it was discovered that the walls are ready to come down. In the attic, cables connect the front and rear walls of the house to keep them from falling right over. It is a shame that such a great building has fallen into such disrepair [...]

SidewalkNow that it is getting cold out, we would like to share a few things with you that are especially important in the fall and winter.

Mice and other pests. Whether you living in a $3,000 per month apartment or a $300 per month apartment, this may affect you. Mice don’t care how new or old the house is. They are only concerned with eating and staying warm and dry. Here are a few tips for keeping mice out:

  • Keep all trash outside and food well sealed up (this includes pet food).
  • Fill any holes the mice could come through with steel wool
  • Take away their homes by avoiding piling up boxes and other things. Keep any items they could live in at least 12 inches off of the ground [...]
