A few more takes on community development…
Written Under For Tenants, Grand Rapids by Ryan VanderMeer | Leave a Comment
Continuing on a previous post from last month, I thought it would be nice to share some more efforts going on to encourage community in the Grand Rapids area.

Taft Place Apartments
I’ll start with something that has made a lot of people very proud. Last fall, we took over management of a 15 unit apartment building on Taft Ave. in Wyoming. We knew going into the project that the neighborhood has had problems with crime, and a few vacant buildings on the street contributed to a not-so-vibrant feel of the area. However, we felt as if remodeling the building and finding good residents would go a long way to anchoring a strong community on the north end of Taft Ave. Our building, Taft Place Apartments, was remodeled inside and out, and was fully occupied by mid fall 2008 [...]

A couple very entertaining events for a cause coming up!
Written Under For Tenants, Grand Rapids by Ryan VanderMeer | Leave a Comment
On Sunday, June 7th, Uptown is sponsoring a presentation of Noises Off at the Circle Theatre. By the way, why the theaters in Uptown spelled theatre? Anyways, I hear the show is extremely funny. Tickets are $25, and proceeds go to Uptown to help with such events as Trolley Days, Shop Hop, and so on. Tickets are available directly from Urban Pharm, and they are even a tax write-off! Let us know if you want some tickets.
On Wednesday, June 3, the Wealthy St. Business Alliance is throwing a party for asparagus. Amy from Art of the Table was able to get her hands on the rights to show Asparagus: A Stalkumentary at the Wealthy Theatre (again with the spelling). She also worked her magic to get the producer/director to conduct a Q & A session after the film AND (get this) Mrs. Asparagus 1989 and the runner up! Businesses from Wealthy St. and beyond will be on hand with a variety of asparagus dishes, products, and information. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online in advance or at the box office. Proceeds go to the WSBA.

The 10 best things about summer in Grand Rapids
Written Under For Tenants, Grand Rapids by Ryan VanderMeer | Leave a Comment
This is just a fun thing inspired by a beautiful Tuesday afternoon. Here is my list of the best things about summer in Grand Rapids.
10. Uptown Trolley Days - One Saturday each month, you can ride the trolley for free around Uptown. For those who don’t know, Uptown is the the area between Fulton & Wealthy, sandwiched between downtown and East Grand Rapids. Eastown, East Hills, Wealthy St., and East Fulton are all included. You can ride the trolley all the way from the Farmer’s market to Cherry St. to Wealthy and into Eastown…and back to the market again. There are frequent stops along the way, and plenty to see and do along the journey.
9. Festival of the Arts – Classic Grand Rapids right here. Numerous stages, art, street food (mmmm), and the CALDER at the center. If you haven’t been, you must. This year marks the 40th anniversary. This year’s festival will be held [...]
