Houses, Apartments, and Property Management Services in Grand Rapids

Neighbors Saying HelloI’ve had the pleasant opportunity to speak with a few people lately about their efforts to build strong neighborhoods and sense of community where they live. So, I though I’d share some of the experiences of fellow Grand Rapidians in their ventures in order to encourage readers to do so themselves, give them ideas, and understand some of the successes and resistance that they have encountered [...]

If I ever figure out how this RSS application works, you should be able to read our listings and blog posts from Facebook too. Oh, Go Spartans!

Mice are attacking!

Written Under For Tenants, Urban Pharm News by Ryan VanderMeer | Leave a Comment

MiceThe other day, I was alone in the Urban Pharm office early in the morning. I was already on edge after an alleged ghost experience earlier in the year (long story involving a very strange chain of events in our 100+ year old office). From Pat’s office, I started to hear something scratching. On top of potential ghosts, we’ve also had a skunk problem lately. As I sat there listening to the scratching coming from the other room, thinking of ghosts and skunks, I couldn’t help but let my curiosity [...]

Soup Tasting We’ve had a few days now to let all of the soup digest and to reflect on the soup tasting fundraiser for the Wealthy Street Business Alliance (WSBA). Keep an eye out for the WSBA to release a new website in the coming months. Amy from Art of the Table was kind enough to update the business directory on the website today to tie us over in the meantime. Art of the Table, along with Founders Brewing Company, provided the drinks for the evening to help wash down the deliciousness. The Wealthy St. Bakery stepped up to provide a fine selection of breads to soak up the scrumptious soups [...]

Soup TastingOn Saturday, March 21st, Urban Pharm will be joining community members and other businesses in Uptown at the soon-to-be-opened Electric Cheetah for a soup tasting fundraiser. Soups will be judged by a “celebrity” guest, and the winner will have their soup on the menu at the Electric Cheetah! Drinks will be provided, and the Wealthy St. Bakery will be donating breads to soak up the soupy goodness [...]

allendale-expo-3Day 2 of the GVSU Student Living expo took place in Allendale. We spent most of the afternoon talking with students about our newest offering, Avenue 64 Apartments. For some reason, Allendale students were less interested in our free farm animals. Not really sure why…

We would like to thank the fine folks at GVSU Public Safety for the $20 parking ticket. We would also like to thank the Seidman Real Estate Group for putting the event together and providing us with some delicious pizza. [...]

Grand Rapids History: Engine House No. 9

Written Under Grand Rapids by Ryan VanderMeer | 1 Comment

enginehouseAt the northeast corner of Leonard and Quarry NW in Grand Rapids you’ll find one of the city’s first fire stations–Engine House No. 9. Of course, it wasn’t the first. The first engine house, Number 1, was built in 1868 on LaGrave SE. Engine houses 2 – 8 were erected between 1879 and 1890. Engine House No. 9 sits today where it always has, at 527 Leonard NW. It was designed by architect W.G. Robinson (who also designed No. 7 on Madison). C.H. Pelton and Co. constructed the building, which cost $7,200 (about $138,420 in 2009 dollars). Construction was wrapped and the engine house opened for operation in 1891 [...]
