Houses, Apartments, and Property Management Services in Grand Rapids

Originally posted 2/5/09: Wednesday, the Senate added an interesting element to the proposed stimulus package. If it holds up, homeowners will get a tax credit for 10% of the home’s price when they buy a home. The credit has a cap of $15,000, so anybody buying a home over $150,000 will only get [...]

GVSU Expo: Day 1

Written Under Urban Pharm News by Ryan VanderMeer | Leave a Comment

2009 GVSU Student Living Expo We needed something to give away for free, so I picked up some plastic farm animals (Get it? Urban Pharm…like Farm). The pizza was flowing like the Nile, and it was nice to see some of the non-apartment downtown businesses there to showcase what the city has to offer. There were lots of smiling faces and we met a lot of great people [...]

Green Grand Rapids

Written Under Grand Rapids by Ryan VanderMeer | Leave a Comment

Green Grand RapidsThe City of Grand Rapids has been tweaking their master plan. Part of their efforts to get the word out led to participation by Grand Rapids in National Parking Day, which Urban Pharm participated in last September. I also had the pleasure of attending a couple of the Green Gatherings with fellow Grand Rapidians to compile our visions of the city and its overall direction regarding planning. The attendance and feedback was awesome, and the ideas presented (and listened to by City Hall) are exciting to think about. I’m talking bike lanes, mass transit, expanded parks, alternative energy, and so on.

Check out some of the proposed changes to the Master Plan at the Green Grand Rapids website. Also, if you want to get involved in the planning process, mark you calendar for May 13th at 6:30 at Harrison Park Elementary. It sounds like this gathering will address how to take the ideas and make them a reality.

Urban Pharm PuzzleCory over at the Electric Cheetah just sent over the proof for our puzzle that will hang on the wall of one of the bathrooms in the new LEED certified building (built by Bear Manor Properties). I already have my Electric Cheetah gift certificates burning a hole in my pocket. Mmmm…Saffron Tomato Bisque. You can sample some of Cory’s soups at The Sparrows while waiting for the doors to the new Wealthy Street bistro to open. So, next time you’re in the Electric Cheetah and “feel the urge,” check out the puzzle.

We see a lot in our ventures around Grand Rapids. Here’s a small collection of some of our favorite pictures compiled during 2008. Some aren’t really cool photos, but rather photos of interesting places. Just something look at when you should be working I suppose…

Be sure to visit Stimulus Watch to read up on which “shovel-ready” projects should get funded in Grand Rapids. You can get some details on the projects and vote for or against them. I don’t know how much influence the site has over which ones are ultimately chosen, but it’s interesting nonetheless.

Inauguration Trip and Take-Aways

Written Under Nationwide by Ryan VanderMeer | 1 Comment

Writer’s Note: This article reflects the opinion of me, Ryan VanderMeer, and not necessarily Urban Pharm as a whole. I wrote it to share a viewpoint gained from seeing the inauguration first-hand, and I don’t intend to detract from the purpose of our site—to document the accomplishments and news of Urban Pharm and provide resources to our clients, tenants, and other interested parties.

The alarm clock pulled me out of my suburban DC hotel bed at 4 am Tuesday morning, the 20th of January, 2009. [...]
